October 1st, my sweet husband, Guy was diagnosed with colon cancer (from a routine colonoscopy). He had surgery on Halloween to remove the piece of colon with the cancer tumors and has been resting and recovering since. Fortunately we have a pretty happy ending to this story so don't worry. :)
They got all the cancer with the surgery. Absolutely no spread beyond the tumors (there were 2 of them). They took out 15 lymph nodes and they were completely clean (no cancer cells). So all things considered, the oncologist said he did not need chemo or radiation, and that the surgery was all that had been necessary because the cancer was caught early. What amazing news that was for us after several months of being scared and worried.
He's healed very well from the surgery and is back riding his bike to his job at Trader Joe's, and we are feeling very lucky and very blessed. Not just for his good health, but for all the love and support from friends and loved ones over these difficult months. We could not have gotten through this without you all, and appreciate you more than you'll ever know!
Moral to the story: If you are over 50 get your COLONOSCOPY!! Do not put it off. Love yourself and those around you enough to put up with the minor inconvenience of having it done. The life you could be saving may be your own!!
Love to all of you and Happy New Year!!!!
