Lucille Clifton ~ 1936 - 2010

One of my favorite poets, Lucille Clifton passed away today at the age of 73.  I want to share with you my favorite poem by her ....

homage to my hips

the hips are big hips
they need space to
move around in.
they don't fit into little
petty places.  these hips
are free hips.
they don't like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.
these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.
i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top!

drawing by artist, Paul Delacroix

Amen to that! Women are *supposed* to have hips and curves, not look like spindly little stick insects.

Hi Sandie~

Love the strength in those words! And the drawing too! : )
It's about time we all felt proud of our round bodies and treasured who we are.
