A Southern California Christmas with Etta Meerkat!

'Twas the day before Christmas and all through our flat, Excitement was brimming for Etta the Meerkat....

Etta and I had such a fun day baking cookies for Santa, and preparing for Christmas. She is a marvelous helper and found that she really loves Oatmeal Cranberry cookies. ;o) After lots of cookies and goodies were baked, we spent a little time in my studio crafting Etta a tiny little swimsuit to wear to the beach. Being used to sewing for plus sized women presented a unique challenge in making a very small swimsuit for a meerkat that I will happily add to my resume! I let Etta pick out her own fabric - and she decided on black, with hot pink polka dots.

Swimsuit made and holiday cooking preparations done, we settled in for a lovely evening of Holiday movies. We watched my favorite holiday movie, White Christmas. Etta eemed to enjoy herself, and said she really like the costumes. Then we hung Etta's stocking with ours, and left cookies and milk for Santa and tucked Etta in for good night's sleep.

Etta woke Christmas morning to find that Santa had left her candy, fruit and nuts in her Christmas stocking, which she enjoyed snacking on. And under the Christmas tree was a shiney new Meerkat sized surf board. Etta squeaked with glee and jumped up and down, because she knew this meant that she was going to surfing!! So, breakfast out of the way, we headed off for Christmas day at the beach!

It was a beautiful sunny day at Moonlight Beach, with lots of kids playing with new boogie boards and kites. Etta took a little time to soak in the sun and see all that was going on. Then, it was time to try out her new surf board! After a few practices on dry land - Etta headed to the water's edge to test our her surfing abilities. And surprisingly enough - she took to surfing like an old pro!

After a fun and crazy day of surfing, Etta, waves goodbye to her new surfer friends, and Moonlight Beach. She and I decided to pose for a picture together as a special momento of our holiday together.

As you can see, Etta and I had a glorious time at the beach. I did notice that she has added a new word to her very "British" vocabulary. She now calls everyone "Dude". Ah yes, California surf lingo. You gotta love it. ;o)

Today, Etta and I are making her a pretty little bag/pouch for her to keep all her new treasures in on her travels. And then, it is off to her next adventure. My husband and I are sad to see her go, but we so enjoyed her company for the holidays. She was a delightfully fun and well mannered guest!

So, where in the world will Etta go for her next adventure?

A special Holiday visitor at our house!

For any of you that are following the World Travels of Nifty Knits little Meerkats, Etta & Treasure, I have a very fun update. Etta has just just arrived at our house in San Diego for the Christmas Holiday! She seemed a little tired and jet lagged from her cross country trip from New York (visiting Kristen of GocksFrocks), but was excited to be in sunny Southern California. :o)

She was particularly excited to see our Christmas Tree decorations and other other holiday trimmings around the house, so we just let her explore a bit on her own. Etta had lots of fun climbing all over my Christmas tree checking out the ornaments. She is particularly enamored with my "sock monkey" ornament. I'm wondering if she thinks he is a odd looking Meerkat?

She liked the garland and Candy Canes on our fireplace mantle. I promised that we would make and hang a stocking for her so that Santa would be able to leave her some gifts! She thought the little TruLuxe acorns that I used to decorate the fireplace garland were very festive.
She checked out all our family pictures on the mantle and said that she thought our Grandson, Charlie is very cute. (We agree! )

Today, Etta and I are going to do some holiday cookie baking (cookies for Santa), and I promised her tonight that she could wear the lovely Tutu that Gock Frocks made her and watch "The Nutcraker" ballet with me on TV. And tomorrow, I think we are taking her to the beach!

We'll be back on Christmas day with more fun adventures of Etta the Meerkat. Hope you stop by for the update! :o)

Happy Holidays!!

Meerkats embark on World Tour!!

The Etsy Treasury Team is preparing for really cool global happening!! Heather Leavers better known as Nifty Knits, who is well known for her adorable hand knitted Meerkats, will be sending out two of her little creations to become globe trotting adventurers. That's right, the little Meerkats will be traveling around the world, meeting many of the ETTeam members and will learn and do something interesting at every stop; maybe learn about where ETTeam member lives, get to know the ETTeam member, help the ETTeam member craft. Lots of special events are planned for over 30 total stops, approximately 15 stops per Meerkat. The trip finale is a photo shoot of the meerkat and all the fabulous souvenirs (great items crafted by each ETTeam member) amassed along the way. The photo-shoots will be done by Tyarkoni and Lori411.

Each stop in the traveling Meerkats journeys will be blogged in several places as well as shared on a dedicated facebook fan page. As secondary points this project will show shipping times; the variety of places around the globe that Etsy sellers are located; and highlight the way a global ETSY team can function and work together on a project. There was such great interest in hosting a meerkat by ETTeam members, that the happening was expanded from the original one, to two traveling Meerkats, each with their own itinerary.

Once home from their journeys, the traveling Meerkats and all their souvenirs will be going to a new permanent home via two fabulous GIVEAWAYS hosted on the ETTeam Blog.

I'm particularly excited because Etta (one of the little Meerkats) will be joining my family for Christmas in Southern California!! I'm making plans to keep her busy and excited, and to ensure a fun and interesting stay here with us. I know she will love seeing the beach and possibly enjoying a surfing lesson. :o)

The adventure has begun, and to read all about it - stop by Heather's NiftyKnits blog. By the time the Etsy's Friday Finds promotions goes live on Nov 13, 2009, the Meerkats will have been begun their journeys and may have arrived at their first stops.

Stay tuned!!!

Have a fabulous Halloween!!

OOOOOooooooo

There's a Goblin at my window,
And a monster at my door.
The pumpkin on my table
Keeps smiling more and more.
There's a ghost who haunts my bedroom,
And a witch whose face is green.
They used to be my family,
'Till they dressed for Halloween!

Have a Happy Halloween, everyone!!
