Merry Christmas!

We had a very sweet (and quiet) Christmas day, and it was quite delightful!  Guy and I are very blessed with a healthy and happy family and the good comforts of life.  And Christmas (for us) is always a great time to reflect on that.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas (Chanukah, Kwanza, Winter Solstice).  I hope it was filled with the joy of children opening presents, good food, family and friends, and all the love you can hold!

Stop by Zaftig Delights this week and check out our new CLEARANCE section with items that have been marked down 40% or more off the original price for a quick sale.  We'd love to move some of these delightful items off to a new home to make room for more new items I've been working on.  Be sure to watch out shoppe in the new year for lots of wonderful new handmade items to purchase.

I also opened up a second Etsy shoppe Le Petite Merchantile.  It is my "destash" shoppe, where you will find, fabric, unused fashion patterns, yarn, notions, findings, beads and lots of unique and interesting supplies.  I hope you will stop by and check out our goodies.  We have some really great bargains!!

Don't you love the Tudors?!

Are any of the rest of you completely hooked on the Showtime series, The Tudors?  I rented the entire first season's episodes last month, and couldn't tear myself away from the TV!

The acting is top notch. Jonathan Rhys Meyers as King Henry VIII, is like no King Henry you've ever seen. He is a sexy and hard bodied young man filled with passion and intense ambition.  The locations and authenticity of the costumes are a visual treat.  The hot steamy sex is .... well, it is some seriously hot steamy sex! Fabulous series filled with palace intrigue and royal drama .  I can't wait for the 2nd season to become available on DVD.  Gotta have it!!

In the meantime, I satisfied my need for all things Tudor, by making the necklace you see here.  It is an altered art portrait necklace of a lesser known painting of Henry and Anne Boleyn in happier times. He looks at her adoringly, and she being coy, looks away from him.   It is set in antique brass, with lovely Czech glass charms and little brass crowns.  It is finished with a toggle clasp and is 24" long.  You can find it in my Etsy stop here - The Tudors Portrait Necklace.

Don't miss the 2nd season of The Tudors on DVD available soon!

Some fun and fabulous Holiday earrings were added to my store this week.  With the current special on earrings (buy 2 get one free - see shoppe announcement) you can match all your Holidays party outfits!!

Happy Holiday shopping!!  ~ Sandie Clause  :o)

We've added some cute new clothing items in super sizes that would be perfect for your holiday parties or New Year's Eve. They are all hand painted by me, and embellished with genuine Swarovski faceted crystals. Here's a sneak peek...

This beautiful cape is made from a stunning piece of heathered purple medium weight wool that I bought in Scotland. The mills even gave me their custom "woven in Scotland" tag to put in the cape. It is very full cut, with patch pockets on the front, and pretty pewter thistle buttons at the sides, pockets and front closures. The cape is perfect for layering over something light weight in the Spring and Fall, and heavier sweaters or even a jacket in the Winter. It drapes beautifully, and is quite warm.

This is a one size fits plus and super sizes from 3X (26/28) to 8X (44/46). It measures 110" across the hips, and is 39" long.

I can also make this cape up for you in other fabrics as well as wool, both solids and plaids. Just convo me for more details.

This cape is my design, and was hand made by me, (with great attention to detail) in my Southern California studio.

What's new?? Altered Art Jewelry

Altered Art is a broad term that encompasses many styles and genres of art.  At it's most basic, it gives new life to old or used items thru the application of various techniques, some recognized as standard artistic methods, some not.  The result may serve both a functional purpose as well as a creative and artistic piece.  Its increasing popularity reflects the diversity of its influences and the artist's staring point.  Some start as painters or collage artists, of from within some other well-known school of art.  Many crafty people, whether fiber crafters (knitting & crochet), scrapbooker, stampers and card maker, find their way to altered art.  Sometimes, a collector of a certain item from postage stamps to thimbles to toys, will want a new way to display or use their treasures, and discover that they are actually dabbling in altered art.

The results are as varied as the influences; tag books, bottle cap jewelry, journals, shadow boxes, shrines, works to commemorate special occasions or themes such as family history, weddings, etc.

In my case I use photos and collages, together with antique earring and pendants pieces as well as glass and lucite, to make unique and one of a kind jewelry.  I've been on a romantic kick lately and have done several pendants and necklaces with a Parisienne theme.  Pictures of the Eiffel Tower, cozy french cafes embellished with Swarovski crystals, vintage lucite beads,  and flowers, etc.

I am also doing a series of Old Hollywood Glamour, that will feature legends of music and silver screen.  To the right you can see some earrings I made with portraits of Jean Harlow.  I am also doing some wonderful cuff links for the guys with glass and portaits and record album covers of musicians and singers of the 40s and 50s like Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller and Louis Armstrong.

Remember, the Holidays are fast approaching and these would make wonderful gifts that will surely be cherished for a long time.

It's getting cold outside!!

It's that time of year.  Daylight savings goes back to Standard time November 2, and it definitely getting cold outside.  Brrrrrrrrr!

It's time to put away the summer and transitional clothes and get out your winter garments.  Things to wrap you up in warmth and fend off the Autumn chill.  And, I have just the thing for you.  A lovely hand knitted hat and matching scarf.  Shown here is my Dredlocs Hat, which has pretty braids and curly yarn coming from the top (like a pony tail).  This gorgeous yarn used, resembles the vintage curly lamb coats from the 1960's - thick and warm with an inviting bumpy texture that makes you want to snuggle in.  The yarn is a soft belnd of Superfine Alpaca, Peruvian Highland Wool, and Nylon.  This hat and scarf is currently available in these pretty Petal and Plum colors.  Perfect to brighten up your fall or winter day.

Another favorite in our store, is our Plush Scarf, and matching Bandeau Headband.  The Plush Scarf is a fluffy and extra long scarf that will wrap you in plush softness.  Our Bandeau Headband buttons in the back at the nape, giving you a great way to keep your ears and head warm without mussing your hair.  This set shown below is in a lovely forest green, and like all my knitwear is hand knitted my me in my Southern California studio.

There is nothing like hand knitted goodies to make your winter lovely.  They also make wonderful Holiday gifts, and stocking stuffers!  Drop me a message through my Etsy store, , if you have any questions or want to discuss a custom order.

The Zaftig Goddesses are here!!!

I've had people request I make up more of my glass Zaftig goddess pendants, and I'm happy to report that I have some now up for sale in my Etsy store. The pictures here are what is currently available. I think this batch turned out particularly pretty. They come in three different colors of beautiful borosilicate glass.  Amber, (left) that looks like a swirling caramel or salt water taffy.  Aqua (below), features beautiful ocean colors, and Black (below), which looks like it is swirled with some pretty eggplant (purple) colors.  They either come embellished, on sterling, antique silver or antique copper chains with fancy toggles and Swarovski crystal charms.  Or, they come on color matching suede cords with metal toggle clasps.

If you celebrate the rounded female form, then this little goddess is a must for your "fat positive" jewelry collection.  If you have any special requests or questions regarding our Zaftig goddess, be sure to send me a message thru my Etsy store.
